We’ve been getting a lot of questions from students wondering about the pre-requisites requirements for admission to the CPA Professional Education Program (CPA PEP), so we just wanted to take a moment to clarify what CPA has advised they will require for admission to CPA PEP.
Currently, there are four different pre-requisite lists/transfer guides that students can choose to follow for admission to CPA PEP:
- *Legacy Program Pre-requisites – CA
- *Legacy Program Pre-requisites– CGA (levels 1-4)
- *Legacy Program Pre-requisites – CMA
- New CPA PEP Pre-requisites
As shown on the CPA Pre-requisites page, CPA has indicated that they will continue to accept legacy program pre-requisites (#1-3 on the list above, marked with an *) for admission to CPA PEP until June 2017. If you refer to the Electives Checklist available on myUBCDAP , you’ll find the courses that can be completed through DAP/UBC to meet the coursework that would be required of the respective legacy program, in addition to the courses required for graduation from DAP. Students must meet the pre-requisite course requirements of only one of the CA, CGA, or CMA pathways to be accepted for entry into the CPA PEP; students will not be allowed to combine courses from the CA, CGA, or CMA pathways.
If you choose to follow one of the legacy program requirements for admission to CPA PEP, you may also need to complete Module Zero, which is a free, online bridging program that CPA is offering to cover additional competencies required for CPA PEP, that weren’t required by the legacy programs. For more information, please see CPA’s Module Zero page.
You now also have the option of following the DAP CPA PEP pre-requisites for admission to the program. If you follow the CPA PEP pre-requisite list, you would not need to complete Module Zero. Under the CPA PEP pre-requisites, the courses that are required for CPA PEP, not for DAP completion are: BUSI 291, BUSI 470, BUSI 493, ECON 101 and ECON 102.
Regardless of whether which pre-requisite list you’re following, if you feel you have done equivalent courses that are not shown on the respective list that would meet the remaining requirements for CPA PEP, it is strongly recommended that you contact CPA directly to confirm whether they will recognize this coursework. Do not make assumptions that the coursework will or won’t be accepted. You can send an e-mail to cpapplication@casb.com to inquire and in your inquiry, specify:
- that you are currently enrolled in DAP
- the details of the courses that you would like reviewed (e.g. where and when the courses were completed, the course code and the course number)
- that you would like to know whether this coursework would be equivalent to any of the legacy program requirements and/or the new CPA requirements
We’ll also keep you posted on any CPA developments that directly affect DAP; however, to keep yourself up to date on all the latest CPA developments, do check the CPA BC website regularly and follow the Become a Chartered Professional Accountant of BC Facebook page.
