CRA Changes for 2019 Tuition and Enrolment Certificates (T2202 Tax Receipts) – Action Required

Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) has made changes to the Tuition Tax Credit section of the Income Tax Act, starting with the 2019 tax year:

  • Form T2202A will be replaced by Form T2202 and will be an information return that is filed by the designated educational institutions with the CRA each calendar year; and
  • The student’s Social Insurance Number (SIN) needs to be included on the Form T2202.

These changes will apply to any student who has registered in one or more courses during the following terms during 2019:

  • 2018 Winter Term 2 (January to April 2019)
  • 2019 Summer Term 1 (May to June 2019)
  • 2019 Summer Term 2 (July to August 2019)
  • 2019 Winter Term 1 (September to December 2019)

In order to comply with CRA’s new requirements and to ensure that we can provide you with your T2202 Tuition and Enrolment Certificates next year for filing your 2019 tax return, we are asking all DAP students with eligible 2019 tuition fees to input their SINs on myUBCDAP at your earliest convenience. This can be done by visiting T2202 Tuition and Enrolment Certificates on myUBCDAP. Once you’ve logged in with your CWL, you’ll see a box in the middle of the page where you can input your SIN.

T2202s for 2019 will be available from myUBCDAP by the end of February 2020.

Please note that if you have paid eligible UBC & AMS student fees or enrolled in other UBC credit-courses outside of DAP during 2019, these fees will be included on the T2202 issued through the UBC Student Service Centre (SSC). As such, you will need to input your SIN twice – once to SSC for your student fees and non-DAP tuition and once to myUBCDAP for your tuition fees (the systems ARE NOT SYNCED to allow your SIN to be pushed from one system to the other).

Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
