Hello everyone…I know you are busy working, handling your extra-curricular activities, studying hard, commuting to school and of course, keeping a work/life balance (haha), but, here are a few things to keep in mind right now:
1. The CPA Blog
- CPA Blog is up and running (if you did not know that already).
- There you can find CPA recruiting related information and of course access the slide decks from the CPA Recruit Workshops.
- The newest “CPA Application Workshop” will be joining the others shortly.
- More posts will be coming as we receive more information on the CPA Recruit.
- Here are instructions on how to access the CPA Blog through Connect.
– To enroll in the Connect course, follow the link below (you will have to first enter CWL and password ) Self-Enroll in Summer CPA Prep Series 2016
– Then go to Course Catalogue (under the Courses Tab on top menu bar) and search “CPA Summer”.
– Click on the icon to the right of the course (under Course ID) and select enroll
– Then enter the access code cpasummerprep
….and Bob’s your uncle! (idiom)
2. Networking
- You only have a few weeks to network. So be sure to reach out to your contacts and make meaningful connections.
- Are there a few questions about the firm, their service lines, specialties, etc. that you have not been able to find out about? Now is the time!
- You even have a few more events just to gather that last tidbit on information to use in your letters, follow up, interview questions of closing.
- Be careful to keep the rules….more on that below.
3. Research
- Finding second level and third level research information is what can set you apart.
- Now is the time to utilize your strong sleuthing and search engine skills, and find out everything you can about the firms that you will be crafting cover letters to.
- There is a marked difference between specific and general cover letters. They simply secure more interviews!
4. Applications
- Be sure to understand and use the application form appropriately. The 2016 CPA Application Form can be found on COOL in the Document Library.
- Be sure to fill it out very carefully. The correct firm name really helps.
- One note to keep in mind. Under Education, the first section is for your current (DAP) education. Your “cumulative” average is for your current education only. Each post-secondary program will be listed separately.
5. Coaching Appointments
- On August 15th the DAP Office will be posting the CPA Application Review Appointments. You can register for these on COOL.
- These appointments will be on-campus and will begin on August 25th.
6. 2016 Code of Conduct
- The 2016 Code of Conduct is available through COOL. Be sure to keep the rules as you proceed into this year’s CPA recruiting activities.
- There is specific guidelines for:- Exchange and Out-Of-Province Students
– Networking
– Interviews
– Job Offers (when accepting or declining)
Good luck,
