Important – Changes to CPA Recruit This Year (Additional Details)

In follow-up to our earlier post about the changes to CPA Recruit this year, we’d like to share with you some additional information on what these changes mean.

For many years, all the firms participating in the formal CPA Recruit had a coordinated calendar of application, interview and offer dates that was released through CPABC along with a Code of Conduct that all firms and schools followed.  This year, CPABC will not be releasing a calendar or Code of Conduct; however, they have released a CPABC Post-secondary Recruitment Framework.  While firms still plan to do most of their recruiting in late summer and early fall, some firms are conducting an additional early round of recruiting in June such as PwC and BDO (postings are now up on COOL).

What does this mean for you as a student?

  • Summer networking events including those organized through the clubs will take place as planned on campus and at firm offices
  • There will not be a Midsize Firms event or National Firms event in September as held in previous years
  • Firms may CHOOSE TO make offers throughout the summer and fall
  • Application, interview, and offer dates will vary from firm to firm

More information is available on the CPABC website.  Please read the CPABC Post-secondary Recruitment Framework and the FAQ’s for students.

To fully prepare yourself, we recommend the following:

  • Follow the firms you are interested in on their social media to keep abreast of events and dates specific to them
  • Watch COOL on a weekly basis for new announcements regarding postings/events/workshops
  • Attend CPA Prep Workshops put on by the Business Career Centre and DAP program (next one is June 7th)
  • Review the myUBCDAP blog regularly to keep informed on the latest news and updates
  • Follow the DAP Student Club through their website and Twitter
  • Make a coaching appointment with DAP Career Coach, Russell Garrett,  to assist you with your questions and help you with your CPA Recruit strategy. He’s available for online appointments throughout the summer as well as in-person appointments on select dates. Online appointments can be scheduled with Russell by e-mail (mailto:dapcareersupport@sauder.ubc.ca); in-person appointments will be open for registration on COOL.
