Starting this term, all course evaluations for Sauder courses will be completed online, which means students will no longer have to worry about bringing pencils to class to complete the paper forms! Please see below for a message from Brian Bemmels, Senior Associate Dean, Academic Programs for more information on this change to online course evaluations:
—
Dear Students,
For many decades the Sauder School of Business has used a paper based system for course evaluations. This involved the envelopes filled with forms and boxes of tiny pencils you are all familiar with. In 2007 UBC, through the Centre for Teaching and Learning Technology (CTLT), launched an online course evaluation system. For the past several years, Sauder has been the only Faculty on campus not using the online system and still uses paper forms for course evaluations.
Starting this term, we will be switching to the UBC online system. For more information, please click on the following link: http://teacheval.ubc.ca/frequently-asked-questions/
Towards the end of a course (end of term, or end of MBA period), you will receive an e-mail message with information and instructions regarding the completion of the course evaluation process. You will also receive reminders when the deadline for completing the evaluations is nearing. There are two options for completing the evaluations. You can complete the evaluations online from a computer, or on a mobile device (smart phones, tablets, etc). For any course with more than one instructor, you will be asked to complete a faculty evaluation for each instructor as well as the course.
The Sauder policy with the paper forms was that evaluations should be completed in class, generally at the start of the last class period. In order to promote high response rates, this policy will continue. Instructors will set aside time (10-15 minutes) in class during the last two weeks (ideally the start of the last class) for students to complete the evaluation. You should bring a laptop to class, or completing them on a mobile device. The instructor will leave the classroom while students complete the evaluations.
Thank you for your attention and we are certain that our students will have no problem adjusting to this change in process.
Best regards,
Brian
