Upcoming Career Planning Workshops and On-Campus Coaching Opportunities – CPA Spring Recruit and More

DAP Career Coach, Russell Garrett, will be facilitating a number of career planning workshops and be available for on-campus coaching appointments from January to April. Whether you are planning to go through CPA Recruit this spring or thinking about your career plan in any area, you will not want to miss these upcoming opportunities!

Registration for on-campus coaching and each of the following workshops is now open on COOL.

January 14th – CPA Spring Recruiting Overview – Learn how the Spring CPA Recruitment Process works and how to begin preparing now to give yourself the greatest chance at increasing your success. Leave with some concrete action items to begin learning about public accounting firms, connecting with firm staff and preparing prior to when the job postings go public.

January 21st – Career Management – Come and discover your first steps in identifying your career goal and begin gaining focus! Then discover the best ways to pursue that goal through research, information and self-evaluation which will lead you to motivation, decision and action!

January 28th – Your Career Action Plan – Come and begin to put your plan into action to access the Hidden Job Market, and to engage people in your new career path by learning the value of creating, building and maintaining contacts. See how being connected will add to your success when applying to advertized jobs. Begin setting goals, increase your motivation and start tracking your progress to greater impact your career decisions.

March 4th – Making Contacts For Career Success – Come and learn how to make meaningful contacts in the realm of business, targeted companies and with CPA firms that will increase your chances of career success. Identify platforms of social media to engage to connect with companies and staff to engage people for research and networking. Learn how to increase your success when you meet those important network contacts, campus recruiting reps, managers and staff.

March 11th – Determining Your Personal Brand – Your brand will increase and become a consistent expression of self-marketing and good communication in print and in person. Begin preparing your introduction, determine the visual impact of your career documents and improve your social media presence including improving your LinkedIn profile.

March 18th  – Preparing Compelling Written Documents – Come and watch your resume begin to take shape to fit the business and accounting field including the CPA recruiting process. Learn about the specific approach, content and quality of cover letters. As well, begin preparing your reference list and move toward in completing your LinkedIn profile and taking action through Social Media.

March 25th – Successful Interviewing – Prepare in advance so that you are ready to make the impact needed in an interview and during a competitive accounting recruiting process. Learn what types of questions will be asked and the best way to prepare and answer behavioural, open-ended value-based, and various challenging questions. Then learn the importance of, and determine your follow up plan for every job search activity.

April 1st – Sealing the Deal! – Come learn the strategies of accepting and rejecting job offers and how to stay connected with the companies you remain interested in when you do not secure a position with them. Learn how to negotiation salary and evaluate job offers. Then consider how you can be an effective Sauder Alumni.
