Significant Changes Are Taking Place in 2022 – Make sure YOU are ready!

For many years Public Practice Recruiting has had a structure that has been the foundation of campus recruiting periods for students in post-secondary degree and diploma programs throughout North America. Over the last few years this had changed significantly. With skill shortages on the rise, the human capital needs of firms rising and a pandemic complicating everything, it has made the process of attracting and securing the right talent much more challenging for these firms. Even the CPA associations across Canada have ramped up their recruiting activities to support this process over the past few years.

These realities have caused the firms to take a close look at their needs verses the process in place and have determined it is time to take more control of their hiring practices. No surprise really, as the rest of the labour market works this way for the very same reasons. With this new approaching rolling out in 2022, students will need to pay close attention to five major things:

Reminder – DAP’s Careers in Accounting workshop series continues with Navigating Job Offers, Salary & Your Future! on Monday, November 29th, 4:45 pm PT (live online and live in-person options available)

This workshop will be available for in-person attendance and online viewing, with separate links to register for each option. Please only select one of the options if you would like attend. 

Learn and apply the strategies of accepting and declining job offers and how to stay connected with the companies you remain interested in while you are waiting or when you do not secure a position with them. Learn how to prepare for and initiate a salary discussion and negotiate salary when necessary. Utilize strategies to evaluate job offers and seize the best opportunities. Then as a Sauder DAP Alumni, see how you can leverage your success for your future and for others.

Registration for this workshop and the final workshop in this series is now open on COOL where you will have the option to select the in-person workshop or the online/virtual workshop (please make sure to only select one of the two for each workshop date).

As a reminder, the next workshop in DAP’s Careers in Accounting workshop series will be held on November 15th. 4:45 to 6:15 pm PT. This workshop will be available for in-person attendance and online viewing, with separate links to register for each option. Please only select one of the options if you would like attend.  The topic of this workshop will be Successful Interviewing.

Prepare in advance so that you are ready to clearly demonstrate your skills, accomplishments and strengths in an interview and during a competitive Public Practice Firm recruiting process. Increase the effect of both your first and last impressions. Learn what types of questions will be asked and the best way to prepare and answer behavioural, open-ended, value-based, and other various challenging questions. Then learn the importance of, and determine your follow up plan for every job search activity as a way of protecting your investment.
