Online Event | EY Info Session – May 21st, 4:30 pm (register by May 13th)

EY will be hosting an online info session on Thursday, May 21st at 4:30 pm – see below for more information on this session. Registration for this session is now open on COOL.

Please note that EY has asked for student contact information for sending out invitations to access the session on their platform. To facilitate this, registration will close on Wednesday, May 13th and we will be requesting permission from registered students to allow us to share your e-mail address with EY. Further details on how to provide this permission will be sent to students once registration has closed.

Public Practice Spring Recruit – Update from CPABC

Please see below for an update from CPABC on this year’s Spring Recruit (in italics):

In these very unusual times, the accounting profession is very concerned about the uncertainty and stress that the COVID-19 pandemic is having on the public, including post-secondary students. Keeping the best interests of students at the forefront, the profession feels that students should be free to focus on their health, safety, families, and finishing off their academic year. In light of this, we wish to inform you that there is consensus amongst public practice firms to suspend Spring Recruitment activities, including the implementation of the CPABC Recruitment Framework Spring 2020 deadlines. The suspension of spring recruitment activities also acknowledges that many students attending post-secondary institutions in B.C. have been doing so away from their home cities and countries and have subsequently returned home to be with their families, limiting their ability to socialize with and understand the culture of the various accounting firms. Continuing with spring recruitment activities could leave students who have returned home at a disadvantage.

Being proactive has always been the way to have increased success and to stand out even before any competitive recruiting period begins on campus or before any job postingS drop. Now COVID-19 has made these strategies even more significant. So what are YOU doing to take your job search online?

It has always been affective to reach out to specific people and engage them for in-person meetings and, what has become known as, coffee-chats. These are really information interviews. This strategy is where students and/or job seekers arrange a 15-20 minute meeting with staff in targeted companies to ask meaningful questions about the industry, the company and the person they are meeting with.
